‘Aging with optimism’ focus of open house, wellness and multicultural fair

Stratford Lakeside Active Adults Association is running an Open House, Wellness and Multicultural Fair Saturday at the Agriplex Community Hall.

Association President Trudy Jonkman said the focus is Aging With Optimism.

“It’s something really important in our lifetime with the baby boomers coming of the age we are, and there’s lots of things associated with aging with optimism,” said Jonkman.

“One aspect of it is having a positive outlook, and you can accomplish that by enriching your lives with music, art, awareness of different cultures, staying healthy and active.”

Jonkman said Aging With Optimism includes having deep, meaningful relationships, challenging negative stereotypes, and ageism.

The open house aims to showcase the programs that the association offers, as well as bringing in other groups and organizations to highlight healthy living options, be it physical activity, learning, or getting involved.

Programs include line dancing, slow pitch, winter golf, pickleball, shuffle board, tai chi, cards, painting, and learning.

Jonkman added that the event will include multicultural booths, snacks and door prizes.

Admission is free. The event starts at 9 a.m.
