The Take Back the Night walk and rally is returning to Stratford.
Julia Church, vice chair with Stop Violence Against Women Coordinating Committee of Perth County, said the message for the Sept. 19 event at Market Square is a serious one.
“There were 107 sexual assaults reported to Stratford Police just last year, that was up from the year before. What we also know is the majority of victims of sexual assault don’t report it to police.”
Church said that the walk and rally will also be energizing and positive and have an impact on the community, adding that it’s up to everyone to help stop sexual violence.
Survivor-advocate Rachel Walker is scheduled to speak.
Church said moving forward she would like to see everyone in Perth County understand the role they can play in protecting their fellow community members, with everyone standing up and saying, “this is not going to happen anymore.”
The event starts at 6:30 p.m.
