Residents called to fill red bags with food as part of ongoing campaign

A campaign using red bags to bring much-needed food to people is coming to Perth County.

This Saturday, the Purolator Tackle Hunger Red Bag Campaign will have employees and volunteers drop off 3,000 red bags across the region, including St. Marys and Mitchell.

Purolator Inc., who run the campaign, said you’ll need to fill these bags with non-perishable food items before leaving them at your doorstep.

Couriers will take the bags on September 20, bringing them to local food banks, like the Stratford House of Blessing, to support those in need.

The courier company said the House of Blessing needs several items, including Mac & Cheese, side dishes like hamburger helper, pasta sauce, canned ham, chicken, salmon, peanut butter, canned vegetables, cereal, and nut-free kids school snacks.

This food drive is part of a National Red Bag campaign by Purolator, where similar drives are held across Canada and the US in hopes of addressing food insecurity.
