Stratford woman charged in Bayfield restaurant arson

A Stratford woman was arrested on Wednesday and faces arson charges in relation to a fire at a Bayfield restaurant nearly two years ago.

Bluewater Fire Department and Huron County OPP responded to the structure fire at The Hub on the  Docks restaurant, north of the Bayfield bridge on the west side of Bluewater  Highway/Highway 21, at 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 17, 2023.

The Office of the Fire Marshall determined the cause to be arson. Damages were estimated at $1.2 million. No injuries were reported.

Huron County OPP Crime Unit took a 63-year-old woman into custody without incident.

Charges include three counts of break and enter to commit and indictable offence, three  counts of arson – damage to property and three counts of possession of incendiary material.

Charges will be addressed at Ontario Court of Justice in Goderich on Oct. 20.
