Local author’s book offers ‘thoughts, hopes, dreams’ during cancer journey

In the midst of a crushing blow, Joanne Schreuders decided to write a book.

A local author and mother of 10, Schreuders has written Doing It Well: Walking Through Cancer With Hope, based on her late husband Jim and his two-year cancer journey.

The book describes what their big family went through.

“Thoughts, hopes, dreams…along with humour,” Schreuders said.

The book includes ‘think about it’ sections, which provide references for those impacted by cancer.

“We really…had our struggles like anyone else. God was with us and we went through it. We had a lot of hope. Jim had a lot of hope. And he helped the rest of us through.”

Schreuders said writing the book was therapeutic. The family was able to pre-plan, which helped when it was time to sit down with a funeral director.

Schreuders is also the author of Family at Large: An Entertaining Peak into the Life of a Large Family.

Both books are available on Amazon.
