Car tour promises winding county roads, scenery and local history

It’s an idyllic Sunday drive along some scenic roads and a chance to learn about local history. And, of course, there is food.

Rotary Club of Stratford and Stratford Perth Museum are co-hosts of the Dave Blackburn Memorial Rural Routes Car Tour Sept. 28.

The fundraiser supports local Rotary programs including the Rotary Respite House, Rotary Hospice Stratford Perth, Stratford Rotary Complex and Aquabox, a low-cost filtration system that provides purified drinking water.

Rotarian Ron Anderson said it’s the eighth annual and the tour takes around three hours.

“It was started in memory of Dave Blackburn, who was a longtime Rotarian. He was a community leader and a car enthusiast.”

Stratford Perth Museum GM Kelly McIntosh said there are three different launches for the car tour at 9:30/10/10:30 a.m., and participants will journey through scenic, county roads and stop at historic locations.

“We have tour guides and historical experts in four different locations,” said McIntosh. “You’re fed. You get to enjoy a road trip. It’s a deep dive into history that you didn’t know. It’s so much fun. And then there is a quiz at the end.”

Cost is $50 per car for driver and navigator and $15 for additional passengers.
