Perth County’s New Official Plan is in effect after being approved by the provincial government.
According to the county, this plan came as their previous one was over 25 years old, resulting in the need for a new one.
After being adopted by County council, the updated document was submitted to the province for final approval in fall 2024.
The county said the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing made 79 modifications to the plan to address legislative and policy decisions for different areas, including housing supply, land use compatibility, and agricultural land uses and lot creation.
Following these changes, the ministry told the county in a Notice of Decision that the plan is both approved and in effect.
Perth County Warden Doug Kellum said he’s excited to get the news.
“The update is long overdue and this document will provide us with modern policies to pave the way for a bright future in Perth County,” said Kellum.
“County council is grateful to all staff, who have contributed a significant effort to bring this new document to fruition.”
They hope with this new plan, it can bring their policies in line with current priorities and lower the red tape so less development applications require Official Plan Amendments.
