Howard & Hugo the skeletons are bringing smiles to the community

A Stratford resident hopes to bring smiles to people’s faces using large skeleton displays.

Outside the home of Black Swan Brewing manager Cassandra Brunsdon are Howard, a 12 foot tall skeleton displayed alongside Hugo, a skeleton dog, and a tiny unnamed skeleton.

“I’ve had Howard now for three years and Halloween is my favourite season and I always saw Howard at Home Depot, and I always wanted one,” said Brunsdon.

“When I moved here two years ago, I left Howard up for Halloween and into Christmas and people were asking if I’m going to continue to keep him year-round and it was really well-received.”

She said with the help of her boyfriend Steven, they change Howard for Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, and back to school, with plans in the works for Thanksgiving and Halloween.

Hugo joined Howard in September as a memorial to Brunsdon’s dog, Norm, who passed away in June. She also recently lost her dog, Gord.

“He is a memorial for both of them,” said Brunsdon.

“Initially it was just fun to keep him year-round,  but Howard and Hugo have really brought the community together.”

She said that both skeletons represent community, connection, and positivity, and she’s received messages from people that saw them on the Via Train.

Howard and Hugo will be dressed up for Halloween, with the theme this year being Beetlejuice.
