Stratford Film Festival director Megan-Smith Harris has won an award at an international film festival.
Harris won the Best Feature Screenplay award for The Ghost Of You, a film following the story of a grieving mother haunted by regret and the ghost of her son, who wants to help his mom navigate life.
She accepted the award last Sunday at the Burbank International Film Festival, where she said “without great stories you can’t make great films.”
“You can be an emerging filmmaker at any age,” said Smith-Harris.
“I began writing The Ghost of You during the COVID years when so many people were dying and everyone was fearful of losing someone they loved. I’m not an anxious person by nature, but I began to succumb to the collective angst in the world. Channeling my creative energy into writing helped me to feel more in control.”
She said to have her script be recognized at such a scale is not only a huge honour, but a “reminder that the power of storytelling can connect us across communities.”
