Residents will gather to imagine Stratford’s future in a two-part event.
The Provocation Ideas Festival’s Maker Universe: Constructing Futures is an imagination event, focusing on figuring out what makes a small city future ready.
Founding Festival Director Mark Rosenfeld said it’s an opportunity to get the community to imagine Stratford’s future together.
“The intention is both discussion of ideas and making something that comes out of that discussion,” said Rosenfeld.
“It began in August at the Stratford Public Library with young people making a model of the future, and people in subsequent times will be able to make their own models. We’ll provide materials to do so, the guidance and direction.”
Rosenfeld added that the intent is to figure out how to make a city like Stratford healthy, environmentally sustainable, offers housing, is affordable, culturally vibrant, and economically dynamic.
The event kicks off with a panel discussion on Oct. 16, including speakers like KerrSmith Design’s Helen Kerr, Sustainable Community Builder Devon Fernandes, and BMI Group Director of Land Development and Design Hanna Domagala will talk about planning for future cities and youth attraction, among other topics.
The panel will run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Copperlight/Knox Presbyterian Church at 142 Ontario Street.
Following the panel, residents will build their models for the next four days from October 17 to 21 at the Church basement.
A public exhibition will then take place at the church basement from Oct. 23-25, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
