GOHL: Warriors go shootout route to defeat Maroons

Stratford Warriors came from two goals down on the road to win 3-2 in a shootout over the Chatham Maroons on Sunday in a GOHL Western Division game.

Jack McGurn’s power play marker cut the lead in half in the second period after goals from Chatham’s Trevor Zanutto and Max Skinner.

Max Wildfong tied it up in the third period.

The Warriors also won the shootout 3-2. Stratford improved to 5-2-1 on the season, good enough for seventh place in the Western Division.

The Maroons are in fourth place at 6-2.

Elsewhere in the GOHL, St. Marys Lincolns doubled up the Strathroy Rockets 4-2 on Saturday.

Owen Voortman, Owen Kalp, Chase MacQueen-Spence and Devun Colebrook, with an empty netter, all scored for the Lincolns on the power play.

St. Marys improved to 7-3-1 and sit in third place in the Western Division.

Zachary LeBlanc and Ian Norton scored for the Rockets, now in 10th place at 3-6-1.

On Friday, the Warriors shutout the visiting Listowel Cyclones 4-0 behind two power play goals from Grady Murphy. Colin Slattery and McGurn added singles.

Gage Hurst stopped all 21 shots for the shutout.

Also Friday, the Lincolns got a balanced scoring attack in a 5-1 home win over the London Nationals.

Jack Clarke, Ryan Hodkinson, Ethan Weir, Lincoln Moore and Voortman scored for the Lincolns. Aydan Doyle scored for the Nationals, still in first place in the Western Division at 9-2.
