OPP release regional figures for Operation Impact

The OPP’s 13 detachments in the West Region wracked up 1,832 charges over the Thanksgiving weekend, with 110 of those in Perth County.

Operation Impact aims to reduce the number of preventable motor vehicle fatalities, injuries and collisions on roadways through enforcement and public education, with a focus on the main fatality factors: impaired and aggressive driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, distracted driving and driver fatigue.

Police laid 919 speeding charges in the region over four days, with the number in Perth County jumping to 102 from just 39 last year. Seatbelt charges accounted for 75 of the total but there were just three in Perth County. Forty-seven drivers were charged for distracted driving, five of those in the county.

There were no impaired drivers in the county among 36 charges laid in the region.

West region OPP charged 41 people with stunt driving.
