Open house feedback on Huron Street project on docket for council meeting

The Huron Street reconstruction project is one of the agenda items for Monday’s Stratford city council meeting.

Project engineer Nathan Bottema is presenting a management report to council about the project’s second phase, which aims to replace underground infrastructure and renew the roadway and sidewalks from John Street to Matilda Street.

According to the report, a virtual open house about the initiative was held this past July.

Property owners and tenants in the area reviewed a presentation, plans, and anticipated construction schedule, before filling in a resident/owner questionnaire before Aug. 15.

Feedback pointed to concerns about business access, parking availability during construction, current water pressure, and the steepness of existing driveways for the project.

Bottemma said along with council’s thoughts on these findings, he’s asking for their approval to go ahead with construction tendering for the project.

If this goes through, the tendering period would run during this fall, with construction to start next spring.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m.
