Optimist Club of Stratford donating $55,000 to area grade schools

The Optimist Club of Stratford are doing their part to ensure every student is well fed and  warm so they will have a better capacity to learn.

The local organization recently decided to provide $5,000 to each of 11 Avon Maitland K-8 schools from the Avon Maitland District School Board and Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board for the ‘Healthy Bodies Healthy Learning’ initiative.

The $55,000 donation will help with food and clothing insecurity.

Club treasurer Stuart MacCuaig said the Optimist Club have made donations to individual schools over the years when they find situations that could use their help.

MacCuaig said every school has students from struggling families going through tough economic situations. By providing each with the donation, schools can address their own individual challenges.

Cheques will be presented to schools next week and MacCuaig said the response from school leaders has been overwhelming.
