City council special meeting will address potential building permit fee hikes

A proposed draft amendment to increase building permit fees and a new ‘additional inspection fee’ charged by the City of Stratford will be addressed at a public meeting.

The meeting on Nov. 24 is to inform developers, builders, designers and residents about a potential increase to building permit fees as of Jan. 1, 2026 and the first day of January after that, in accordance with the 12-month average change of the Statistics Canada Consumer Price index.

The city said the new inspection fee will be charged when an additional inspection is deemed necessary by the chief building official or for call-back inspections.

The public meeting is a chance to share information and to hear and consider public comments regarding the proposed amendments, which can be reviewed by staff prior to council’s consideration.

All those present at the public meeting will be given the opportunity to speak.

Residents can contact Adam Betteridge, Director of Building & Planning Services, with comments by Nov. 10.

Comments will be summarized in a report to city council.

A live stream of the meeting is available here: Stratford Webcast.
