The magic of Shakespeare will be brought to life through puppetry this weekend.
SpringWorks: indie theatre & arts festivals are presenting It’s Macbeth: A Tale Told By An Idiot at Factory163.
Eileen Smith from SpringWorks said the show is a one-person adaptation by actor Eric Woolfe of Eldritch Theatre, a Dora Mavor Moore award nominee.
“I am just pleased by the capacity for someone to honour the truth of Shakespeare at the same time as being completely outside of the box.”
Smith said the title is actually a line from the play, and a layering of what William Shakespeare had to say about kings and witches and magic.
“Puppets are such an amazing artform. They just can do anything, everything. They are straight up magic. And this particular work is really out there.”
Every character is played by a puppet or Woolfe, who “specializes in building worlds that are quite magical”, according to Smith.
The 80-minute performance runs Friday night and twice on Saturday.
Tickets for all budgets are available at Springworksfestival.ca.
