New, exciting, practical ideas brought back to Perth County after ROMA conference

Perth County officials have returned from the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA) conference in Toronto with added insight and new ideas.

Warden Dean Trentowsky, attending with county councillors and staff said it was an opportunity to advocate for the region and promote the advantages that Perth County has to offer.

“We work hard to represent the needs of our communities and we appreciate the time granted to us to engage in productive conversations with provincial ministries,” Trentowsky said in a media release.

The local contingent attended a delegation with Laura Smith, parliamentary assistant to Rob Flack, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and also attended a delegation with Agriculture Minister Trevor Jones.

The county said delegation meetings provided an opportunity for municipal leaders to discuss key top-of-mind issues for municipal governments.

Sessions focused on rural access to health care, Indigenous relations, codes of conduct, community safety and wellbeing plans, infrastructure, waste management, housing, and road safety in rural communities.

Meetings were focused on advocacy for efficiencies in the municipal planning process and support for the continued growth and expansion of the local agricultural sector.

Trentowsky said the group were able to “gain insight, learn, and bring new, exciting and practical ideas back to our communities.”
