Stratford man charged after stabbing in Sarnia

Sarnia police say a 26-year-old male of Stratford faces charges that include assault with a weapon after officers found an adult male with a stab wound in his upper leg.

Police say a victim was bleeding heavily and immediately provided life-saving first aid by responding officers. The incident took place in the early morning hours of Jan. 17 in a basement apartment in the 300 block of Somerset Crescent in Sarnia.

Police say a second male sustained a laceration to his forearm.

Police say following initial response, the suspect concealed himself on the property of a nearby residence as he watched what was occurring at the scene of his crime and was located when a neighboring resident notified officers on scene that he could see a man hiding behind a car and that it appeared suspicious.

Police say the first victim was transported to hospital for emergency surgery and continues to receive critical care treatment although his injuries no longer appear to be life-threatening.

The second victim was treated and released after receiving stitches.

Other criminal charges include possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, uttering threats to cause bodily harm, aggravated assault, assault causing bodily harm and assault.

Following a bail hearing, police said the suspect was remanded into custody.

Investigators continue to gather information and encourage anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact Sarnia Police Service or Crime Stoppers.
