Stratford man plans to run to Tobermory to support wife

Samm Simon plans to run from Stratford to Tobermory for a great cause.

Simon’s journey will raise funds for his wife and others battling cancer, and go to Stratford General Hospital, Wellspring Stratford and London Verspeeten Family Cancer Centre.

A city resident, the tradesman plans his 251K charity run on May 11.

Simon’s wife, who he declined to name for privacy reasons, is battling cancer for a third time.

“It’s a very helpless feeling on my end watching my wife going through what she’s going through. I started going to Crunch Fitness just to blow off some steam.”

Simon said he needed to come up with something to support her.

Tobermory was chosen because his wife’s family has a cottage in the region.

A running coach and a strength and conditioning coach are helping Simon prepare for the challenge including how to run on tired legs.

Simon plans to run a marathon each day, with hopes of getting to Tobermory in six days.

He said two of his close friends will document and share the journey while travelling in an RV along the route.

The fundraiser has now raised $8,640, with the goalposts moved to $10,000.
