Enter a colouring contest for a chance to win a firehouse tour

It’s an opportunity to win a fire station tour through a colouring contest.

Stratford Fire Department is holding the Sparky colouring contest. Kids ages five to 10 get to colour the page featuring Sparky the Fire Dog, the official mascot of the National Fire Protection Association.

Fire Safety Education Officer Lisa Walter said the goal is to get kids to talk about fire safety and ask more questions.

“Kids learn and absorb so much at such a young age, the sooner we teach them about fire risks and what to do in an emergency, they’ll carry (that) throughout life,” said Walter.

The contest is also a way to celebrate Sparky’s 75th birthday. Sparky is described as a “friendly face that kids and even adults recognize and relate with.”

Walter added it’s one entry per child, with the artwork needs to have their name and age, and the number and/or email of the adult submitting on the kid’s behalf.

The winner gets a station tour for up to six people, and the runner-up gets a fire safety “swag bag” with fire safety-themed items.

Submissions can be returned either to the public library, the clerk’s office at city hall, or by scanning and emailing it to Walter at lwalter@stratford.ca.

Deadline to submit artwork is March 31. The winner will be announced April 7.
