Just about every tool in the policing toolbox was used to catch and arrest an Essex resident this week.
On Wednesday, Huron OPP were notified by their Lambton County colleagues of a male suspect driving a minivan on Bluewater Highway.
The suspect forcibly entered a residence nearby and demanded car keys from the homeowner, before fleeing towards Bayfield in the stolen sedan, then east to Clinton, Seaforth, and Dublin.
Multiple officers attempted to stop the vehicle with tire deflation devices to no avail.
Just before noon, Huron OPP located the vehicle southbound on Base Line in Central Huron and they were able to safely stop the vehicle.
The lone occupant fled the vehicle but was apprehended.
The suspect was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Police said no officers were injured but there was damage to an OPP police vehicle and the stolen vehicle.
The suspect was monitored by an OPP helicopter as well as officers on ground. OPP from three counties, including Perth County, were involved. The West Region OPP emergency response team and a K-9 unit also assisted.
The investigation is ongoing and numerous charges have been laid.
