Video footage helped Stratford police find man with a pellet gun

Stratford police asked for public help yesterday afternoon finding a man with a gun.

Thanks to video footage provided, they were able to find the suspect at his home Thursday.

Police said the firearm turned out to be a replica Glock pellet gun.

Police said shortly after 6 p.m. the male was identified as a 19-year-old city resident.

The pellet gun was seized, and further investigation is being conducted to determine if criminal charges will be laid.

Earlier in the day, despite an intensive search, Stratford Police and Perth OPP were unable to locate the male after a report he was carrying a black handgun in the area of 619 Devon Street.

Officers arrived shortly after 12:30 p.m. and blocked off areas of C.H. Meier Boulevard near Walmart and Devon Street, near the Avonwood condominiums.

Police said the man was wearing blue Nike jogging pants tight at the ankle, and a beige camouflage hoodie, with headphones around his neck.

He was observed walking east along the north side of Devon Street prior to police being contacted.

The search included the use of a drone equipped with thermal imaging.

The area was re-opened to all traffic shortly after 2:30 p.m.

Stratford police thanked the public for assistance and prompt response.
