Hundreds of charges laid as part of weekend seatbelt blitz: OPP

Nearly 170 charges were laid during a weekend seatbelt safety blitz.

The charges were laid by West Region OPP during their 2026 Easter seatbelt campaign, which ran from over the long-weekend, focusing on seatbelt education and enforcement.

Locally, Perth County OPP laid 24 speeding charges and one charge for failing to wear a seatbelt during the campaign period.

Police said four traffic deaths in the region so far this year have been attributed to failing to wear a seatbelt and enforcement efforts will continue.
