GOHL: Battle of Highway 7 kicks off this weekend

The Stratford Warriors kick off their GOHL western conference championship series this weekend against the St. Marys Lincolns.

Game one is set for Saturday night in St. Marys and game two will be in Stratford Sunday afternoon.

Warriors play-by-play announcer Les Vaters said it will be an evenly matched series, adding the Lincolns are looking well heading into this series.

“They had a pretty easy go in the first, well not an easy go in the first round, but they got through the first round in about five games,” said Vaters.

“They got through the second round in six games against the tough Elmira team and they played against them well. They stick to their structure really well. Jeff Bradley is a great coach over there in St. Mary’s,” said Vaters.

St. Marys Mayor Al Strathdee said he has challenged Stratford Mayor Martin Ritsma to a jersey bet, where the loser of the championship finals will have to wear the winning team’s jersey at a council meeting.
