Stratford’s fleet will be greener as seven new vehicles join the division.
Stratford City Council voted unanimously Monday to purchase three mid-sized hybrid SUVs, two full-sized hybrid pick-up trucks and two full size work vans.
The new purchases will be used by departments that include social services and housing, according to Manager of Fleet Operations Brent Raycraft.
“It’s part of our climate change initiative, which is electrifying the fleet,” said Raycraft.
He said the new vehicles will replace aging ones.
Raycraft’s management report presented to council said five vehicles will transition from gasoline-only to hybrid models to support the city’s efforts in lowering greenhouse gas emissions and lowering fuel consumption.
Total cost is $474,030 including HST.
Raycraft said compared to previous years, greening the fleet has seen an increase in cost.
He added this change is a great opportunity for the city.
