Listowel students can now learn machinery used in modern machine shops thanks to a sizeable donation.
Avon Maitland District School Board said the Canadian Tooling & Machining Association donated two new lathes valued at $50,000 to Listowel District Secondary School’s manufacturing technology class.
On their website, the association said it aims to support the country’s tooling and machining industry by working with educational institutions and government bodies to develop needed skills.
Board staff said this investment aims to give students a chance to master practical skills needed to work in the skilled trades.
Manufacturing teacher Tyler Campbell said having access to reliable equipment makes a big difference.
“Starting with manual equipment like these lathes allows students to internalize the process through touch and sound,”
Funds arrive through the association’s Career-Ready with CTMA program to help people increase skills for job opportunities in the precision metalworking sector.
