With more than 100,000 kilometres on their Chevy Volt, Geoff Williams and wife Felicity Sutcliffe understand the benefits of electric vehicle ownership.
Williams is one of a panel of guests scheduled to provide information and answer questions at an electric vehicle workshop May 12.
Sutcliffe is a member of the City of Stratford’s Energy and Environment Committee, organizer of the event.
Emissions reduction is part of the city’s Community Climate Action Plan.
Williams said panelists will discuss typical concerns about EV ownership including range, charging, cost and savings – topics the couple have learned a lot about.
“All of the things people need to think about before they move to an EV or plug-in,” Williams said.
In addition to fuel savings, Williams said there is a $5,000 federal rebate available, which could spur more EV sales.
There is a learning curve for EVs, Williams said, but after purchasing it four years ago, he has found their Volt inexpensive to run and it has required little maintenance.
“As long as we are charging at the house it is pretty straight forward. For longer trips you do need to find high speed chargers, but there are some apps that will find chargers for you.”
Many communities have made significant investments in EV charging stations. There are 25 city-owned EV charging spaces in the downtown core.
The workshop runs from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Agriplex.
