A new mural project in downtown Stratford has financial backing.
At Tuesday night’s meeting, city council voted unanimously in favour of providing Downtown Stratford BIA $20,000.
The BIA will facilitate the instillation of a mural on the east wall of 118 Ontario Street.
A management report by Director of Corporate Services Karmen Krueger states that when the BIA requested the funding last October, council agreed to defer it until the Municipal Accomodation Tax (MAT) Ad-Hoc Committee brought a drafted policy forward.
According to the city website, the committee provides support, guidance, and advice to council and staff on the use of the city’s portion of MAT revenues, which are used to support Stratford’s tourism industry.
Coun. Jo-Dee Burbach advocated for approving the funding request at last night’s meeting.
Council will use funds from prior year MAT revenues to support the project.
