Black History series continues at Stratford Perth Museum

A CBC journalist will lead an upcoming panel discussion at Stratford Perth Museum.

The museum says Garvia Bailey, a broadcast journalist, will moderate Networking Heritage, a discussion June 20 that will bring new records and familial ties to the forefront, with surprising genealogical links to local and national celebrities.

It’s part of the museum’s We’ve Been Here: Black History series.

Raised in Stratford, Bailey approached the museum with a desire to contribute to its Black history initiatives.

Also scheduled to appear are TD Curator of Collections, Zahra McDoom from Museum London and Joey Hollingsworth, an award winning tap dancer and a lifetime achievement award recipient from the Ontario Black History Society.

The museum says the panel discussion will provide a ‘behind-the-scenes’ overview of research projects in museums and academic institutions, with an aim to describe the process of accumulating oral and written history and how stories transform to find a home in museums and academia.

Cost is by donation and preregistration is encouraged. The panel starts at 2 p.m.

The museum continues to seek stories about Black history. Email them to: yourstory@stratfordperthmuseum.ca
