Thompson in Taiwan: Documentary highlights impact of Stratford Dragon Boat Festival

Ballinran Entertainment President Craig Thompson is in Taiwan promoting his latest documentary.

Thompson produced and directed Ripple Effect. It was screened for people representing 140 different countries at this year’s Rotary International Convention in Taipei.

The documentary highlights the impact of the Stratford Dragon Boat Festival, including raising more than $1 million for local and global causes throughout its 30-year history.

He said while he’s used to international screenings of his films, he never expected this documentary would reach such a big audience.

“Whenever you make a film, no matter how big or small it is, you want to get as many people watching it as possible.”

Thompson said the opportunity came up when the documentary was shown in Stratford’s Tom Patterson Theatre last November.

“There was a representative from Rotary International who came for the discussion after the film screening and she recommended to Rotary International that they take a look at this film. Things transpired and I was invited to come to Taiwan, which is in the area of the birthplace of dragon boating culture.”

He added he is gratified that this film has gained a wider audience.
