GoFundMe page raising funds after tragic collision claimed the lives of children

A GoFund Me page started after a tragic collision claimed the lives of five siblings is raising funds to help impacted family members.

Organized by Nancy Doerksen, she says on the page that her family is “living through a tragedy that no one should ever have to face.”

Doerksen says her five siblings, ages four to 12, were deeply loved and the heartbreak and grief are beyond words.

OPP said the collision in Wellington County between a van and an SUV occurred on Friday, June 12, at the intersection of 4th Line and Wellington Road 12, in Mapleton Township.

Four boys and a girl are deceased. Police said four adults and one infant suffered serious injuries. Some were sent to local hospital, or air lifted to trauma centres. The driver and lone occupant of the SUV was seriously injured.

Todd Kasenberg, Mayor of North Perth, told MyStratfordNow: “I feel profound sadness for the losses of young, precious children, and the scars that will remain for survivors.”

Doerksen asked the community to continue to keep the Bartsch family in their prayers. She said they were travelling in the same vehicle and were directly impacted by the tragedy.

Doerksen said on the GoFundMe page that their youngest brother has been released from hospital and his injuries were limited to a broken leg.

Her mom continues recovery and is making slow but steady progress. She is still awaiting hip surgery and has a long road of healing ahead of her.

Doerksen said the fundraiser was created to help ease the financial burden on her family, including funeral expenses, travel costs, lost income, and the unexpected needs that come with a tragic loss.

This support, she adds, will allow her family to focus on healing, recovery, and being together during an incredibly difficult time.

If unable to donate, Doerksen asked the community to humbly keep her family in their prayers.

“On behalf of our entire family, thank you for your kindness, compassion, and support during the most difficult time of our lives.”
