Multiple charges laid after police officer snags speedsters

A court date awaits a St. Marys resident charged with driving impaired.

Stratford police say an officer watched a blue Ford 150 enter a Road 119 roundabout at Line 20 in an “uncontrolled manner”, at about 4 a.m. on July 1.

The vehicle was then observed travelling 135 km/h in the posted 80km/h zone on Road 119.

An operation impaired charge against the 34-year-old male will be addressed Aug. 17 at Ontario Court of Justice. The vehicle was impounded for 14 days and the driver received a 90-day license suspension. He also faces a stunt driving charge under the Highway Traffic Act.

Stratford police say the same police officer was on patrol on Road 119 at Line 20 in Perth South on June 30, shortly after 8 p.m., when the officer stopped the driver of a black Mazda 3.

The vehicle was clocked going 61 kilometres over the posted 80 km/h speed limit.

A 20-year-old female driver from Fergus, charged with stunt driving, also had her driver’s licence suspended for 30 days, and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.
