New tools will allow St. Marys firefighters and first responders to help those with autism or sensory sensitivities during an emergency.
The fire department announced they have received two First Responder Sensory Kits, which aim to create a calmer, more supportive environment during emergency calls.
Officials said each kit contains tools to help with communication, lower sensory stress, and build trust.
These include non-verbal communication boards, sensory and fidget tools, noise-reducing earmuffs, visual supports, comfort items, and a firefighter-themed companion plush.
Chief Fire Prevention Officer Chris St. Clair said every member of their community deserves to feel safe and supported, especially during emergencies.
Officials added the kits reflect the fire department’s commitment to providing accessible, inclusive, and compassionate service to all residents.
