Organizers of a popular fundraiser are hoping for another big turnout.
The fifth edition of the Stratford 5K Run/Walk at Upper Queens Park is Oct. 4.
All proceeds go to the Local Community Food Centre. Community Connections Manager Julie Docker-Johnson said the run is a big event for the local organization.
Last year it raised more than $32,000.
“It raises a whole lot of money, which we need and it brings out a whole lot of community on a Sunday morning that in my experience has always been a beautiful day.”
5K organizer Dan Rajagopalan said they are aiming to get 650 runners this year.
“We’re going off of how many shirts and medals we ordered, so if you want a shirt and medal you better register fast.”
He added they need 50 volunteers to help out on race day. The day starts with a 600-metre kids race at 8:50 a.m.
Participants will have access to shuttle services from the city, taking them from the bus terminal to the park.
Runners who’ve participated all four years will receive a commemorative coin.
