Take Back the Night to raise awareness about gender-based violence

It’s a way for survivors of sexual violence to share their stories in a safe space.

The Stop Violence Against Women Coordinating Committee of Perth County is holding its third annual Take Back the Night at Market Square on Sept. 18.

The focus is to raise awareness on all forms of gender-based violence, stand in solidarity with the survivors and demand safer streets and public spaces for the community.

Committee Coordinator and Manager of Public Education for Optimism Place Women’s Shelter Dr. Jen Olenewa said they’ll continue to march until gender-based violence no longer exists in Perth County.

The event includes an art display, community resource tables to support those in need, a sign and button-making station and a community march through the streets of Stratford to show support for survivors.

It’s scheduled to run from 6 to 8 p.m.
