City of Stratford staff got the go ahead to apply for a grant program that could significantly reduce the cost of renewed infrastructure improvements at the Rotary Complex.
City council voted on Monday night to approve a staff recommendation to apply for the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF) grant program to cover costs associated with replacing heating boilers, domestic hot water boilers, make up air rooftop units, and
boiler circulation pumps.
A report to council from Mark Hackett, Manager of Community Facilities, said the project will incorporate refrigeration heat recovery, allowing waste heat generated by the arena refrigeration system to be captured and reused for heating and hot water production.
The project will reduce natural gas consumption, improve overall facility efficiency and lower operating costs.
The funding could cover up to 50 per cent of the $1.5 million cost, per the report.
City council voted unanimously in favour of applying.
If the grant is unsuccessful, staff will provide an update to city council to determine how to move forward with the project.
