It’s time to get a jump start on flu season.
Huron Perth Public Health is offering free vaccinations for influenza, COVID and RSV.
Officials said this comes after five respiratory illness outbreaks have been reported at long-term care homes in both Huron and Perth counties since the end of August.
HPPH medical officer of health Dr. Miriam Klassen said the best way to avoid and minimize these illnesses is by getting vaccinated.
“It is very important to stay up to date on the vaccines you are eligible for to protect yourself and those around you.”
The health unit said the vaccines will first be offered to high-risk and priority groups such as hospitalized patients, people age 65 and older, long-term care home residents and pregnant women.
Starting Oct. 26, anyone 6 months-of-age and older who lives, works or goes to school in Ontario can get free flu and COVID vaccines from participating primary care providers and pharmacies.
Babies, high-risk children and people between 28 and 36 weeks pregnant can get a free RSV vaccine.
Seniors aged 75 and older and those between the ages of 60 and 74 are also eligible for the vaccine, but they should contact their primary care provider as it won’t be available through pharmacies.
