Candidates and community members are getting the opportunity to sit together and talk.
United Way Perth-Huron and The Local Community Food Centre are hosting a municipal election Community Think Tank on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at The Local.
“It’s not a debate, it’s not a time where candidates get up and give a stump speech. What we do at the Local, people sit at their table and have meaningful conversations about things that are important to them,” Julie Docker-Johnson told MyStratfordNow.
The community connections manager at The Local said eight topics will be discussed at separate tables.
Candidates will go to all of the tables to offer thoughts on selected topics, while participants can move about.
For Johnson, this type of event helps the community learn more about the candidates.
“Everybody can go and hear somebody recite a speech, or recite points they’ve rehearsed but it’s not exactly what everybody wants.”
She added it gives the public a voice in the conversation, and the chance to ask more questions.
The Local held previous think tank events for provincial and federal elections.
