Ottawa bringing in vaccine for pig virus

Help may be on the way for pig farmers in our region.

The Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus has been found in four Ontario farms including one in Middlesex County and another in Chatham Kent.

PED has killed millions of piglets in the United States.

The federal government is releasing a vaccine for the lethal virus.

Ottawa will allow vets to import the vaccine.

It helps the animal build antibodies against the virus.

PED has no effect on humans and both the provincial and federal government assure consumers that the meat supply is safe.
