Sexual assault conviction for Cullitons player

A prominent member of the Stratford Cullitons will be sentenced for sexual assault Wednesday.

Reports say 20-year-old Mitch Vandergunst was found guilty on two counts last year.

He’s one of the Cullitons assistant captains.

The charges stemmed from a 2013 incident in which the court ruled Vandergunst forced sex on a woman after a night at the bar.

Vandergunst has been suspended by the team.

He’s filed an appeal of the verdict.
