OPP warning about scams aimed at job hunters

The Perth County OPP says if you’re looking for work, you need to watch out for scams.

A Listowel resident recently replied to a Kijiji help wanted ad.

After taking the job a cheque for just over $3800 showed up at his door.

He was supposed to cash the cheque, keep $500 for himself, and wire the rest to his new employer.

The man thought something was fishy, did not send the money, and sure enough it turned out to be a scam.

The OPP says the overpayment cheque scam is a common one and you need to be on the lookout for it.
