SIU called in to investigate weekend arrest

An arrest over the weekend has led to the Special Investigations Unit being called in.

The incident occurred on Saturday morning at 8:30am.

The Oxford County OPP responded to a disturbance on Otterville Road in Springford.

A 42-year-old Otterville male was arrested at the scene.

During the arrest the male became uncooperative and was restrained by officers.

The accused complained of injuries and was transported to an area hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The male remains in custody in hospital and is facing charges.

The OPP contacted the province’s SIU who has invoked its mandate.

The SIU is a civilian agency in Ontario responsible for investigating circumstances involving police and civilians that have resulted in a death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault.
