James Gordon Stiles (Buzz) of Charles Street Stratford passed away suddenly at Cedarcroft Place, Stratford, on Sunday February 9th, 2014. Gordon was in his 82nd year. He was born in Brussels on April 12th, 1932. He sadly leaves behind his wife Jean who he married on the Steiss Century Farm July 30,1955  in Grey Township, Huron County. He is dearly loved by his daughter Donelda and her husband Terry Schwartzentruber of Toronto. Gordon will be missed by his 2 Basset buddies Dexter and Beula. He is survived by his sister Dorothy  Mc Michan (George) of Guelph and sister in laws Muriel Stiles (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Joan Stiles (London) Donna Stiles (Alberta) and Shirley Stiles ( Kitchener) and brother in law Stewart Steiss (Madeline) of Cranbrook and sister in law Eileen Mann of Listowel and his many nieces and nephews.

He was the 9th of 14 children born to the late William and Sarah Stiles (Speer) of Brussels. He was predeceased by his 12 siblings William (Buster), Louise, Alice, Joe, Annie, Junior (Murray), Kenneth (Mac) Stewart (Dudley), John, Ted, Barbara, Allan and sister-in law Winnifred Mann and parents in law Alex and Ruby Steiss. Gordon was a contractor for Royal Mail/Canada Post with the highway service from Guelph to Wiarton, delivering mail to and from post offices in Huron and Perth counties he delivered rural mail for R.R.# 2 Brussels, R.R.# 1 and R.R.# 5 Stratford, he picked up the mail from letter boxes and had the parcel post contract in the city of Stratford. He employed many high school students picking up letter boxes throughout the years, he was associated with the post office all his life.

He was past patron of the order of the Eastern Star in Palmerston and received his 50 year pin in 2011. He was past master of A.F. & A.M. St. John’s Lodge No.284 in Brussels-Wingham where he received his 60 year pin in June of 2013.  He was a charter member of the Stratford on Avon Mini Kar Club and a member of the Stratford on Avon Shrine Club.  He was an associate member of the Royal Canadian legion in Brussels Branch 218 and the Stratford CNIB Club. He spent many enjoyable years at his cottage at Bluewater Beach (Goderich), he enjoyed the Home Builders Club in Sebringville and swing bowling and shuffle boarding at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford. The neighbours enjoyed his whistling as he sat on the front porch of his home. He spent many evenings playing cards with friends and enjoyed the gentleman’s coffee club. Visitation will be held at the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home, 156 Albert St., Stratford, on Wednesday February 12, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Masonic service will be held at the funeral home prior to the 7:00 pm visitation on Wednesday. A funeral service will take place at the funeral home on Thursday, February 13, 2014 at 2pm with a further opportunity for visitation at 1 pm prior to the service. Reverend Jim Wencel, a long-time family friend, will officiate. Interment will follow in the spring in Brussels Cemetery.
