Linton, Shirley

Shirley Joyce Linton, age 85, of Stratford passed away with her family by her side at the Stratford General Hospital on Friday, April 3rd, 2015.  Born in Chatham, she was the daughter of the late Walter  Brown and Edith  Vaughan.  Shirley Joyce was a member of St. James’ Anglican Church, a delegate to Synod, the first president of the St. James’ A.C.W. from 1969 to 1970 and a member of the Board of Management.  Prior to that, she was a member of the former Stratford Recreation Board and a member of the Stratford Parks Board.  She was appointed as Stratford’s representative on the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority Board from 1989 to 2004 and was elected Vice-Chair for 1998 and 1999 and the first woman Chair and first Stratford Chair from 1999 to 2001.  She was also a member of the Canadian Federation of University Women, Stratford for over 50 years and served as President twice.  Beloved wife of Robert Edward Linton whom she married in Chatham on April 20th, 1956 and who predeceased her on November 30th, 1988.  Dear mother of John Linton and wife Lauren of Concord, Massachusetts and Mary Lou Linton-Morningstar and husband Colin of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Cherished grandmother of Aidan and Maren Linton and Amberly, Solana and Jocelyn Morningstar.  Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her step-father Ronald Beattie Vaughan in 1982.  Family and friends will be received at St. James’ Anglican Church, 41 Mornington Street, Stratford on Tuesday, April 7th from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m.  Reverend Canon Dr. Lorne Mitchell will officiate.  Spring interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Campbellford.  As expressions of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society through the James A. Rutherford Funeral Home, 156 Albert Street, Stratford for the late Shirley Joyce Linton.
