Tax season prime time for scammers

The OPP says the tax scam is making the rounds in Perth County.

What usually happens is you’ll get a legitimate looking email supposedly from the Canada Revenue Agency.

It’ll ask you to fill in all kinds of personal information, something you should not do.

Police are reminding you that the CRA will never request your personal information by email.

As always you need to confirm the identity of anyone you’re talking to over the phone or online.

To report a fraud call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501 or go online at www.antifraudcentre.ca

Alternatively, you can report fraud to your nearest police service.

Further information about this particular scam can be found at www.cra-arc.gc.ca/ntcs/frdlntmls-eng.html
