CFIA investigating swine feed for PED

As 16 farms in Ontario grapple with the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus and the illness spreads to Manitoba and Prince Edward Island, everyone wants to know how it got into the country.

PED has wiped out millions of piglets in the United States.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is now investigating the possibility that it’s being transmitted through swine feed.

The CFIA says the Cambridge-based feed manufacturer Grand Valley Fortifiers has issued a voluntary recall for some of its products.

PED poses no threat to human health or to meat quality.

There have been three confirmed cases in Perth County, two in Middlesex County and one in Oxford County.
