AMDSB decision to deny teacher leave getting lots of attention

Displeasure with the decision to deny teacher Rick Boon unpaid leave continues to grow.

He had asked the Avon Maitland District School Board for the leave to accompany his father, Second World War Veteran Art Boon, to the Netherlands.

The story is getting widespread media coverage.

Even celebrity Rick Mercer weighed in on it on Twitter.

Perth-Wellington MP Gary Schellenberger brought it up in the House of Commons Monday calling it a “travesty”.

Schellenberger says some of his colleagues were surprised at the board’s decision:

Boon’s father has been invited to the Netherlands for the 70th anniversary of the nation’s liberation from the Nazis.

In the meantime The Avon Maitland District School Board is sticking by their decision to deny the leave.
