Founder of Special Olympics Stratford killed in car crash

The founder of Special Olympics in Stratford has died tragically.

Ingrid Newbery was killed in a car crash last Wednesday near Macon, Georgia.  Newbery’s daughter Karen was also in the car but had non-life threatening injuries.

According to reports police say Newbery was in the right hand lane before crossing all the other lanes and crashing into the median wall.

Ingrid started Special Olympics here in 1981.  She had been an active volunteer in Stratford since then.  During that time she was recognized for her work with a number of awards.

She was 76-years-old.
