Child airlifted to hospital after serious car accident

A four-year-old girl had to be airlifted to a London hospital after a serious accident near Atwood.

The Perth County OPP says officers responded to the scene on Line 75 just west of the town at about 2:30 p.m. Friday.

The driver of a minivan lost control, hit the ditch, and then struck the guy wire of a hydro pole.

The pole broke and crashed into the roof of the van causing it to cave in.

After Hydro One ensured the wires weren’t live the girl, who suffered major injuries, was extricated from the wreckage by the North Perth Fire Department.

The driver, a 32-year-old Huron East woman, and another passenger, a seven-year-old girl, were checked out at an area hospital.

The OPP is still investigating this accident, which was one of 32 officers responded to Friday due to poor weather conditions.
