Woman loses $8,000 in Green Card Lottery scam

The Perth County OPP is warning residents about a Green Card Lottery scam.  Police say a West Perth woman fell victim to the con costing her $8,000.

While the Green Card Lottery is a legitimate program put together by the United States government, Canadians are not typically eligible for it.  The U.S. Department of State says there has been a notable increase in fraud related to this program.

As always you need to verify the identity of anyone who asks you to send them money.  Anyone interested in more information on fraud can call the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1 888 495 8501 or online at this website.
